Top 10 Nigerian albums (2000-2011)


10. Asa – Asa
 The album was released in the year 2007. This album has major classic songs like Jailer, Fire on the mountain, Bibanke, and many more. This album was definitely a hit and a classical one also. The album was also nominated for Headies Album of the year in 2008 and even won it. One of the songs was also used as sound track in the movie, The first cry.

Rundown is D’banj’s sophormore album. The album was released in 2006 by Mo’Hits records. All the tracks were produced by Donjazzy. This album is definitely a classic because it dropped when D’banj was in his prime.

8. True story – Timaya
 This album if you ask me, dropped at the right time because this was the period when the militants were seriously oppressing the people of Niger Delta. Timaya saw this situation and he wasn’t too happy with it and he became a voice for the people and he spoke for them through his music. The album was released in 2007 under Timaya’s Dem mama Records.

7.  Everybody Loves Ice Prince – Ice Prince
 Everybody Loves Ice Prince is Ice prince’s debut album A.K.A (E.L.I). The album was released on the 9th of October 2011. This album is the definition of rap. This was the album that Ice prince actually did hard core rap. I like to think that this was so because, this was his first album so he did more than his best to make an impression for his fans. It was also nominated for Album of the year and it won Best rap album in 2012 at the Headies awards. If you haven’t listened to this album, please, please and please, you need to.

6. Superstar – Wizkid
 This is wizkid’s debut album which was released on the 12th of June 2011. If wizkid had a mash up called “The Best of Wizkid”, I’m sure most of the songs will be from this album. This is the wizkid we know. The album was released under Empire Mates Entertainment (E.M.E). All the songs on this album are jams and Classic tunes. In 2012, it won the album of the year In the Nigerian Entertainment Awards.

This album was released on the 22nd of January, 2011. This album is definitely a classic that all this new school rappers need to listen to. The features and everything about the album is just lit. It was released under Chocolate city Music.  M.I schooled a lot of artistes on this album. You definitely have to listen to it and love it.

4. Gongo Aso – 9ice
This is another classic album that dropped when 9ice was in his prime. It was also 9ice’s second album. It was released in 2008. This is the album that has the bangers, Gongo Aso, Party Rider, Street Credibility and the likes. It’s an amazing album.

3.  Game Over – Psquare
 Game over is the third album by Psquare. It was released in 2007 under square records. The album reportedly sold over one million copies in the first six days of its release and it set a record in the Nigerian music industry. The album still made more sales than any other album and made sales on iTunes.  The most successful single on the album was "No One Like You" which stayed at number 1 on the charts for almost 4 weeks until it was knocked down to number 2 by Mo Hits All Stars' "Pere". The album consists of songs like Do me, Roll it, More than a friend and many more.

2. Mushin 2 Mohits – Wandecoal
This is by far one of the best albums ever released by a Nigerian R&B singer. The album was released in 2009 under Mo’hits records. The album features artistes like D’banj, Ikechukwu, Dr. sid and many more. Because of this album, Wandecoal bagged 8 Headies Awards in one night. He is the only artist to ever do that in one night in the history of Headies. This album is too lit. You just have to love it. And wandecoal is still steady making waves even up till this moment.

This is an album by the legendary Tuface. It was released on the 15th of May, 2004. The album sold up to 2 million copies and didn’t spread all over Nigeria alone but Africa. It also and spilled over to Europe as well. This album was made when Tuface was still under Kennis Music. This is the album that has African queen that took Tuface to the international scene.
