T.O.B Spotlight - THE ‘COMPOZERS’



The Compozers is a band made up of a group of young men based in the U.K. it was formed in 2008 by Nana Ntorinkansah, David Ohene-Akrasi, Stephen Asamoah-Duah and Charlie Mensah-Bonsu.
Meet the ‘Compozers’.
Nana Ntorinkansah – Nana 'Pokes':
He is popularly known by his stage name Nana Pokes. He was born into a Christian and musical family in Enfield, North London where his love for music arose. At the young age of four, he started playing the drums and was also good with the keyboard. All this spiked up his love for the bass which he is popularly known for today.
His background contributed a lot to his musical development and also his active participation in the Church, which is a top priority for him.
He is the Co-CEO of an Entertainment company called Decadence Entertainment, which manages the ‘Compozers’. The company was formed alongside his friend, Brian Boateng, triggered by their love for arts – performing arts.
David Ohene-Akrasi – David 'Melodee':
He was born in North London on the 19th of October where he nurtured his love and his electrifying ear for the dynamic sounds of the keyboard and ‘keytar’ which is one of the major contributors to the collective authenticity of Compozers.
As he grew older, he developed his musical senses through YouTube, which taught him various skills and runs. This led him to join the church band where he performed, prior to the formation of the Compozers when he was seventeen.
He is inspired by various artists such as Micheal Jackson, which has helped him to be so diverse and appeal to a vast audience. With his talents and through his instruments he is also able to captivate interests of the audience.
Stephen Asamoah-Duah – Stephen Drummerboy':
He was born on the 31st of December to a Ghanaian family. He attended St Ignatius College, where he obtained his GCSE's including a GCSE in music which was driven by him winning the award for Young Drummer of the Year 2011.
Stephen’s love for music began when he started playing drums at the age of three. This love grew and led him to gain a GCSE in the craft. He studied Business in college due to his love for business and entrepreneurship in which he is channelling into the Business aspect of his skills.
Like the rest, he also played in churches. This was where the relationship between him and the other members began and they formed the Compozers.
Charlie Mensah-Bonsu – Charlie 'Biggz':
He was born on the 6th of July in North London. He started playing the keyboard when in 2005 when he was thirteen years old. The keyboard was a gift was his father which was initially intended to keep him out of trouble and in the long run became his passion.

During his high school years, he made use of the music room to record beats and tracks and gradually developed his love and skills of producing. Moving onto college, he developed various tracks and beats for friends and created a name for himself in the music industry. He also contributed to church, which shaped him into the musician he is today.

Charlie Biggz is seen to be one of the exquisite musicians out there as he has the ability to fuse the attributes of a singer and incorporate harmonic characteristics to create voicing’s that replicate sound sand approach similar to one who uses their voice. He is what we will call extraordinary, which contributes to the key phenomena which make up the ‘Compozers’ today.

The ‘Compozers’ have travelled the world, performing with various award winning artists such as Wizkid, Davido, Mr Eazi Fuse ODG and may more who have allowed them to reach audiences which were unreachable. Through the production of their annual show 'A Night with the Compozers'. They will be working with Adekunle Gold on his One Night Stand tour in London which will happen later this year.

The Compozers believe that music can be used to transform the lives of people around the globe. Music is a universal language. As #ThePoeple'sBand, they use their talents to reach out to those who are unreachable through the touch of their instruments. The ‘Compozers’ truly "let the music do the talking".

Top 10 Richest artistes in Africa

This list contains the top 10 richest artistes in Africa according to Forbes list released in May 2017.


- Akon: Akon tops the list of the richest artists in Africa. The ‘lonely’ crooner has over 35 million albums sold worldwide. He has won numerous awards including five Grammy Award nominations and has 45 Billboard Hot 100 songs under his belt. He tops the list according to Forbes Africa. He has a net worth of $80 million.  

       - Black Cofee: The artist who is from South Africa is a multi-award-winning artist. The artist’s real name is Nkosinathi Maphumulo. He was born in South Africa’s house music province, KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) and raised in the Eastern Cape Province, where Nelson Mandela hailed from, before moving back to KZN to study music. His total net worth is $60 million. 
     
     - Hugh Masekela: He is also from South Africa. Hugh was born in Witbank, east of Johannesburg. He has released more than 43 albums and performed with Marvin Gaye, Dizzy Gillespie, The Byrds, Fela Kuti, Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder and Miriam Makeba.
     
      - Don Jazzy: Don Jazzy is ranked fourth richest in Africa and also first in Nigeria. Like many artists, his real name is Michael Collins Ajereh, and he started playing music as a child in church before moving to the UK to pursue his career and now owns a record label called Mavin and also many awards under his belt. His total net worth is $30 million.

     - Tinashe: She is from Zimbabwe and also an American. Tinashe was a child model by the age of three. The twenty-four-year-old sang before she could talk and made her first appearance in 2000 in the film Cora Unashamed. Her voice also starred in the cartoon feature film The Polar Express alongside Oscar-winning actor, Tom Hanks.    

     - Jidenna: Jidenna Theodore Mobisson who is a Nigerian-American, at the age of 10, knew he wanted to do music but was afraid to tell his father who wanted him to be an engineer but still pursued his dreams. He is ranked sixth according to Forbes Africa. 

       - Wizkid: Wizkid who is from Nigeria is arguably currently the uncrowned king of African music. This is actually a surprise because I never knew Wizkid was richer than Davido but thinking of his success this past year, I think it’s true. His net worth is $20 million dollars.

       - Davido: Davido who also hails from Nigeria, has claimed a high status in just five years. He said it was people like P-Square and D’Banj who made him believe this was possible. He became famous for his widely acclaimed 2012 debut album “Omo Baba Olowo Genesis”. The Omo Baba Olowo since his debut album has been making waves and bagging endorsements. His networth is $16 million.  

          - Sarkodie: Sarkodie also known as Michael Owusu Addo, who is from Ghana, started out as an underground rapper and through the help of Duncan Williams, his former manager, his career was launched. Staying true to his identity, he is a big advocate of Azonto, a Ghanaian genre that is said to have been born out of Kpanlogo, a traditional dance. His first single off his fourth album, Mewu, sold almost 4,000 copies on the first day of its release in Ghana. He was also the first Ghanaian to win a BET award.


      - Oliver Mtukudzi: Oliver Tuku Mtukudzi who is a Zimbabwean, has 65 albums under his belt, more than the legendary Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston. It’s a remarkable career stretching back 41 years with songs that have enlivened parties all over the world.
