Christian Trend Alert: The Hallelujah Challenge Storms the Social Media

Popular gospel artist, Nathaniel Bassey started a social media trend called the #Hallelujahchallenge aka #Olowogbogboro meaning the one with the unlimited hand of power, on the 1st of June 2017.

The #hallelujahchallenge or Hallelujah hour as it’s now popularly called is a prayer and praise session shown live on Instagram and Facebook from 12 am to 1 am Nigerian time every day, and it will continue through the 30 days of June.

This challenge is fast becoming very popular as a lot of people all over the world, and even people of different religions are seen watching it and dropping positive comments. Celebrities like Funke Akindele Bello, D’BANJ, Uche Jumbo, Adesua Etomi and a lot more are seen actively taking part in this trend.

According to Nathaniel Bassey,  The one-hour “prayer and praise” session was inspired by the story of Paul and Silas. And as of yesterday, the number of views reached over 60k  on Instagram when it started with less than 10k views.

Testimonies from countless number of people have poured in via text messages and direct messages. These increase as the days go by. These miracles include healing, mysterious job opportunities, financial provision and a lot more things that have miraculously happened to them. One of the peculiar ‘miracles’ that has happened, is the one about the arrest of a notorious kidnapper Yusuf Aliyu, which was initially a prayer in one of the sessions.

There have been mostly good comments about the session and the participants admitting they feel better after taking part in the prayer and praise. However, there are still some negative comments, especially the one from a media entrepreneur Joy Isi Bewaji saying “The Hallelujah Challenge will change nothing in Nigeria”.

There are other comments about Nathaniel Bassey using this medium to gain more popularity and wanting to start a church to which he replied saying; it is not for fame, but a mandate from God and he is just a vessel. He also added that there is no copyright on the Hallelujah challenge and he is not starting a church.
