This years' Babcock University students' association annual Freshers event is taking another turn as it includes its students in the planning of the event.

Over the years, The students haven't really had a say in the planning of the activities and how the event turns out but this year, the Officials of this year's Babcock University students' association (BUSA) has deemed it fit to carry the students along for the planning of the event.

Students from different levels now stand a chance to officially volunteer to participate in this event planning, have access to most of the segments of the events and also officiate the event. All you have to do is just a click away.

10 ARTISTES WHOSE CAREERS WERE AT THE PEAK BUT ARE NOW M.I.A

This list consists of artistes who were at their peak during their time but are now nowhere to be found.

P.S this list is in no particular order.

 

10. Olumaintain: The king of “Yahoozee” and “Kentro boys” is another artist who has been disappearing and reappearing but he has disappeared for way too long now. After appearing to the music scene for about a year and a half after previously disappearing, he dropped three hot singles, “Nauti”, “Olu In Brazil” and “Cinderella” which featured “2face” and this made waves but ever since then, he’s gone M.I.A again and I really wonder what happened to the “Kentro Boys”.

9. Kas: The “Fi mi le” crooner who has worked with several artistes like “D’banj”, “2face” and the likes has been missing in action for quite a while now. Some say he still produces beats but I don’t think I’ve heard any of his works recently and this has rendered him M.I.A.

8. Presh: Off the duo “KceePresh” which consisted of “Kcee” and “Presh”. Presh has been missing in the scene for quite a while. Although last year he dropped a single which featured “Davido” and the single made waves for a while but ever since then, we haven’t heard of Presh or any of his new releases.

7. Durella: Durella “The king of the Zanga”. During the days of Durella, several jams were dropped. Songs like “Enu O se”, “Zanga”, “Gaga” which featured “Wizkid” and till he disappeared, “Club Rock”. Ever since “Club Rock” which dropped like almost 4 years ago, we haven’t really heard anything from Durella. I really wonder what he is doing now.

6. Niyola: The first lady of E.M.E has also been missing in action for a while now. She hasn’t dropped any single recently. I wonder if she’s on a break but for now, she’s also M.I.A.

5. Kelly Handsome: Although he got into several controversies with the “Mo’hits” crew and the “Choc Boiz”, but he was still a remarkable artiste during his time and he dropped lovely singles like “Maga Don Pay” and the likes. But ever since then, he has been missing in action and although he dropped an E.P, earlier this year, he still didn’t do well.

4. Zule Zoo: These artistes are very hilarious and amazing at the same time. They are the “Kerewa” crooners and they also dropped an album a while back and even though most of the fun songs on the album were banned by the NBC, we can’t still deny the awesomeness of the album. But ever since then, it’s just as if they disappeared and never showed up again. 

3. Danfo Drivers: I’m sure we can all remember this song; “Shey bi you be danfo driver suo”. The “suo” brothers which gave us enough vibe during their days were nowhere to be found until recently when sound sultan released a song titled “Ghetto Love” which featured almost all the Ghetto legends like The “Danfo Drivers”, “Baba Frayo”, “African China”, “Daddy showkey” and the rest. But before then, they were also missing in action.

2. African China: He was known for speaking for the people through his music but now that we don’t know if he even speaks again, sings or what he’s up to. But until the sound sultan track was released, he was also missing in action.

1. Lord Of Ajasa: He is one of the founders of indigenous rapping. But for a really long period of time now, he has been missing in action and with he’s kind of absence, I’m certain he must have taken another career part because not even a single that made waves has been dropped. I wonder what he’s up to now.   

TOP 10 SONGS THAT HAVE ROCKED THE 2ND QUARTER OF THE YEAR (MAY – AUGUST)

This list entails my top 10 songs that have rocked the airwaves since May through to August

10. Penalty:Kicking off the playlist is Penalty by Small Doctor. This song is a jam any day, any time and at any function. The beat is simply amazing and it brings this dancing vibe along. You cannot hear the beat without your body moving to it. The song is also a vibe on the streets because of the several street slangs used in it. If you haven’t heard this song, you are definitely “sleeping on a bicycle”.

9. Runaway: This year alone, L.A.X has been stubborn. Stubborn in the sense that he’s been giving us mad jams non-stop. From “Big daddy” to “Give you love” and now “Runaway”. This song is on a global level. Everyone is vibing to it. The remix of the song came out this past month of August featuring the King of #Iskaba, Wandecoal and ii's already a jam. If you haven’t heard it yet, you should definitely listen to it and it might just be your favorite song.

8. Joromi: Even though it’s a new song, it has been every ones favorite since it dropped. The instruments used in the song, the beat, the vocals and even the lyrics are just amazing. You can definitely conclude that Simi is simply an amazing artiste.

7. Been Calling: Ever since Maleek Berry broke into the music industry as a singer and song writer, he has proven that he is definitely a force to be reckoned with. His amazing production skills and awesome vocals just mash up together and become beautiful music. Been calling is a song where he’s trying to reach out to the girl he likes and he certainly backs it up with the awesome visuals to the song which makes the song lovelier.

6. Yolo Yolo: Seyi Shay who is on an unquenchable fire has not stopped for a bit in terms of giving jams. From “Yolo Yolo” to “Weekend vibes”, to “Weekend Vibes remix” which features “Sarkodie” and to her most recent, “Your Matter” which fetures “Eugy” and “Efosa”. The visuals to “Yolo Yolo” stayed number one on the top 10 Nigeria video countdown for quite a while. Seyi Shay with Yolo Yolo is on the 4^th spot.

5. Hale Hale: This song is the classic definition of “old but gold”. The song dropped alongside the “God Over Everything” (G.O.E) album last year summer but suddenly ever since the video dropped, everyone seems to have jumped on the “Hale Hale” vibe by Patoranking and Patoranking who is now expecting a baby is on the 5^th spot with his Jam “Hale Hale”.

Bonus:

Who: Dremo who certainly dropped a banger with this song has definitely shown that he is not here to play. The beat which was produced by Phantom is absolutely sick and the lyrics are just divine. The rapper has an ongoing instagram competition called #Whodancepass where the best dancer(s) gets money. Please if you haven’t downloaded or listened to “Who” by Dremo, you definitely should.       

4. Mama: Mama by Mayorkun has no other word but lovely. The beat which was produced by Kiddominant is another body of beauty on its own. The song has all girls singing along on the top of their voices. The D.M.W star has over time proven his worth.

 

3. Naughty Ride: Naughty ride by Wizkid off the “Sounds From The Other Side” Album is certainly a jam. The song was sampled from Bob Marley’s “Naughty Ride”. The song which was produced By Major Lazer is a certified Jam and the production quality is epic. From the production sound and knowing who Wizkid is, we can only expect the best from the video even though he’s yet to drop any since the release of the album.

2. Wo!: This is another street banger which has also had many controversies on ban or no ban and the good news is, there is no ban on the song. The video which was shot in Bariga had a lot of dancers in it and it was shot by Unlimited LA. The song is definitely street credible and has been topping charts since its release and the beat produced by the wicked Producer, “Yung John” is epic.

1. Fall: Although it has been banned by NBC, that doesn’t reduce the awesomeness of the song by one bit. Davido who has been making serious moves this year drooped this as his second single of the year following his first big hit this year,“If”. The single “Fall” dropped alongside the video and has ever since been a hit. You can definitely say Davido has been having a terrific year after just concluding his “30 Billion World Tour”.

SPOTLIGHT: TG OMORI #BOYDIRECTOR

The Odd Blog had the opportunity of talking with one of the fast rising music video directors and cinematography. I’m talking about the #BoyDirector, TG Omori. Some of us might know him from his works with Mayorkun and the rest but for those who don’t and those who want to know him more, here’s an interview with the #BoyDirector.

T.O.B: Who are you?

TG Omori: I am ThankGod Omori Jesam and I am a cinematographer.

T.O.B: Why and how did you come up with the name TG Omori?

TG Omori: TG Omori is the abbreviation of my name Thank God Omori hence the name TG Omori.

T.O.B: When did you decide that video directing will be your career choice?

TG Omori: I always wanted to go into entertainment especially stage acting but as time went on, I discovered my love for cinematography and video directing at about the age of 17 then I started working towards it and now we are here today.

T.O.B: What did your parents say about your career choice because we all know that most African parents want their children to be doctors and the likes.

TG Omori: My Parents were not totally in support at first because after film school, I was really broke and jobless so they were considering me switching career but on the long run, they had no choice. But my parents used to come watch me on stage while performing in my local church and I guess those were their proudest moments.

T.O.B: You loved acting on the stage and you still went for cinematography. Why?

TG Omori: Honestly it’s because I couldn’t see my life outside film making.

T.O.B: What have been the challenges so far in your journey in cinematography?

  

TG Omori: Well my challenges so far has been trying to beat deadlines and also manage the funds I get because sometimes the artistes wants the video delivered at a specific time so I have to edit and do everything within a short period of time.

T.O.B: With all this challenges, what has kept you going and what has been the silver lining in your journey?

TG Omori: The silver lining has been the fact that I started earning more respect when my videos began being aired on television stations which I grew up watching like MTV Base, Trace and so on and this kept me going. Those moments are superb.

T.O.B: Can you tell us a few celebrities you’ve worked with and directed videos for?

TG Omori: well I’ve worked with Mayorkun, Myro, Mr 2kay,  Jinmi Abduls, Chuza, Fairy and many more.

T.O.B: As an up and coming music video director, what can you say about the music video industry and to other up and coming music video directors reading this interview?

TG Omori: The industry is a really big market and everyone seems to be loyal to their clique and so there are so many unions but if you are good and focused, artistes and people have no choice than to bring you in and work with you. To other music video directors, focus more on killing that low budget video than chasing celebrities up and down.

T.O.B: What can you say on the Federal Government ban on shooting music videos abroad?

TG Omori: I feel the approach is wrong, we should only be encouraged to promote our culture not forced and trust me, shooting in Nigeria is becoming more stressful and harder by the day. Securing locations is very difficult and I feel the Federal Government should help with this instead of imposing a ban.

T.O.B: What’s the favorite video you’ve directed and which artist would you like to work with in future?

TG Omori: I don’t have a favorite video. My approach to every video is the same motive which is to kill the shot but I might probably like one song than the other. And for the other question, I would love to film for Wizkid.

T.O.B: What are your hopes and aspirations for the future

TG Omori: My hopes and aspirations is to build a family of young directors that will take over the world of film making and it’s on the move already #BydirectorsRevenge and I hope to keep improving with every single video.
